Implementing Project for the Istog–Pejë–Deçan–Gjakovë–Prizren Highway
Client: Ministry of Infrastructure – Kosovo
Total Length: L = 91 km
Road Width: b = 24.5 m
Contract Period: 2018 – Completed

This ambitious project aims to construct a modern highway that connects the main cities of the western and southern regions of Kosovo: Istog, Pejë, Deçan, Gjakovë, and Prizren. Its completion will represent a fundamental transformation in the country’s road infrastructure, contributing significantly to economic development, mobility, and road safety.
The existing Regional Road R107 has faced serious problems due to heavy traffic load, uncontrolled access points, and the lack of supporting infrastructure. With over 11,500 vehicles per day, this road segment has reached its maximum capacity, causing frequent delays and severe accidents, often with fatal consequences.
Main Objectives of the Project:
✅ Develop a modern road corridor that improves circulation between the cities of Istog–Pejë–Deçan–Gjakovë–Prizren through the construction of a new highway.
✅ Reduce traffic load on the existing roads R107, R101, and R103 by diverting transit and heavy traffic.
✅ Provide long-term solutions for traffic management in one of the most strategic corridors in the country.
✅ Increase road safety through the construction of overpasses and underpasses, as well as the elimination of direct and dangerous access points.
Project Structure:
The project is divided into four segments to ensure efficient and coordinated implementation:
- Segment 1: Istog – Pejë (24 km)
- Segment 2: Pejë – Deçan (14 km)
- Segment 3: Deçan – Gjakovë (22 km)
- Segment 4: Gjakovë – Prizren (31 km)
Technical and Environmental Approach:
The project includes modern engineering solutions based on international standards, maintaining a balance with the environment and integrating effectively with the existing infrastructure. This highway will serve as a main artery for the movement of citizens and goods, facilitating movement within and outside Kosovo.
