This study represents one of the most important strategic projects in the field of waste management in Kosovo. The main goal was to assess the current status of the Regional Landfill of Pristina in Mirash – Obiliq and propose technical and environmental solutions for its modernization and expansion, in compliance with national legislation and European Union directives.

As part of the project, numerous technical and analytical activities were carried out:

  • Topographic and geotechnical surveys
  • Assessment of natural and technical risks
  • Analysis of current water and gas management systems
  • Proposal of two technical options for landfill expansion
  • Financial and economic analysis
  • Preparation of the tender technical file and preparation for the implementation phase

The report presents two possible solutions for the new landfill cell:

  • Option 1: Construction of a new cell with a reinforced geosynthetic material base, advanced systems for leachate and gas collection, complete isolation, and full environmental impact control.
  • Option 2: A more financially affordable solution, but with lower performance in terms of environmental safety and control technology.

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was developed, which analyzed the impacts of the existing landfill and the new project on water quality, air, and the health of surrounding communities. Numerous mitigation measures were recommended to minimize negative effects, including a regular monitoring system and the construction of physical barriers to prevent waste spread.

Through this project, Infra Plus has provided in-depth expertise in environmental engineering, waste management, and infrastructure planning. The findings and recommendations in the report contribute to the building of a safer, more efficient, and sustainable waste management system for the Pristina region and beyond. Infra Plus remains committed to providing sustainable solutions with long-term impact for the communities it serves.
